Competing in the Best League in the Country
Vipers teams compete in the New England Girls Hockey League (NEGHL) — widely recognized as the premier girls and women’s hockey league in the United States.
“Established in the 1970s, the NEGHL remains the strongest, most competitive girls and women’s hockey league in the United States. With more than 30 organizations representing over 220 women’s teams from across New England, while offering multiple levels of competition, it is the best league available to female hockey players.”
— NEGHL
Playing in the NEGHL means consistent high-level competition, strong player development, and exposure to the best teams and athletes in the region.
Home Ice & Consistent Structure
All Vipers teams call Breakaway Ice Center home. One of the pillars of our program is consistency:
-
Designated practice days: Tuesdays & Thursdays (full-season), Sundays (half-season)
-
Same practice slot all season — no rotating schedules
-
Predictable structure that supports families, school balance, and athlete recovery
This consistency allows players to focus on development, preparation, and performance.
Off-Ice Training Built for Hockey Players
Tuesday Off-Ice Training with Ryan Sweeney
Every Full Season Vipers athlete participates in structured off-ice training led by Strength & Conditioning Coach Ryan Sweeney.
Off-ice training is a critical part of modern hockey development. Our program is designed to:
-
Build strength, speed, balance, and agility
-
Improve injury prevention and durability
-
Teach proper movement mechanics that translate directly to on-ice performance
-
Develop confidence, accountability, and athletic habits that benefit players year-round
This training prepares athletes not just for the current season, but for long-term success as hockey players and competitors.
Position-Specific Skill Development
Thursday Goalie Skills with Chris Czarnota
Our goaltenders receive weekly, position-specific training from Goalie Skills Director Chris Czarnota, focusing on fundamentals, game situations, and confidence in the crease.
Friday Night Skills with Kerry Brennan
Led by Director Kerry Brennan, Friday night skills sessions provide players with additional puck touches, creativity, and hockey IQ development in a focused, high-tempo environment.
More Than a Team — A Development Culture
The North Shore Vipers are committed to developing well-rounded athletes:
-
Strong fundamentals and hockey IQ
-
Competitive mindset and resilience
-
Leadership, accountability, and teamwork
-
Confidence on the ice and beyond the rink
Whether your player is looking to challenge themselves at a higher level, prepare for future opportunities, or grow in a supportive but competitive environment, the Vipers provide the structure and resources to help them succeed.
