January Update

What an eventful start to the new year! Four of our teams competed in the Islanders Holiday Tournament, hosted at our home rink, Breakaway Ice Center. This was a great way to end 2023 and kick off the New Year! Unfortunately due to a few bad snow storms, games and practices had to be canceled the weekend of Jan 6th and 7th & practice night Jan 16th.

The U12 Blue team played in the Green Mountain Tournament up at Jay Peak. After a tough first game, the team really bounced back and played extremely well. Overall amazing team effort, they lost a tie breaker by one goal to make the finals. The team ended in 4th place but the game to determine 3rd or 4th, went into a shootout because they were tied 3-3. The girls fought hard and came back twice in this game to tie it in regulation. The girls had a great weekend on the ice and had a blast in the waterpark, awesome team bonding!!!

The U13-1 Red team played in the CCM Tournament in Marlborough, MA. After dropping the first game to the Ice Devils the Vipers ripped off three consecutive wins over the Mid Fairfield Stars, Seacoast Spartans and the North Shore Hawks. The Vipers led the semi-final late into the 3rd when the Ice Devils tied the game with just minutes left on the clock. It took an exciting 4 vs. 4 OT to decide the game and it wasn’t until 22 seconds left the Devils found the back of the net. The Vipers were outstanding throughout the tournament with a 3 – 2 record and both losses coming against the top seed in the tournament. Isabel Taddia, Lexi Francis, and Emma Krawczyk all scored multiple goals in the tournament while Defenseman Lauren Ryan took home the best Defenseman honors for the Vipers. Emma Allard and Riley St Arnaud both played remarkably in net during the tournament.

The U12 Blue, U13 Red, and U14 Red teams are representing our organization by attending the Women’s Beanpot Championship for its debut at TD Garden! Extremely proud of these teams as they represent the Vipers during a historic day in women’s hockey!!

Lastly, next Tuesday, Jan 30th at 7:10pm Andover GVH is playing in remembrance of Sarah Duval🧡 We are hoping before, after, or in between Vipers scheduled practices on Tuesday night girls will pop over to support AGVH as they honor Sarah’s life🧡🏒🎗️

If attending there will be a stick tunnel to lead the team on the ice, please try to tape your sticks orange and wear any Sarah Strong gear, thank you!🧡
