September Update
First month of hockey ✅. September was full of firsts for the Viper’s new and returning players. Practices and games began, off-ice and Friday night skills started, and My 360 Mindset was introduced to the players. Most recently the u10 through u14 teams had picture day and full-season goalies will start goalie skills with Coach Chris on Thursday, October 3rd. The Vipers have tallied 26 wins, 10 ties, and a few losses.
Below are some highlights of each team’s season so far!
U10: On 9/22 the U10s had an amazing 11-0 win vs the Lady Flames, the girls are working hard in practice to prepare for their upcoming games.
U12 Red: The U12 Red team came out flying vs the Seacoast Spartans, after losing to them the weekend before. Vipers controlled the game from the very start. Hayden Reardon had the first two goals for the Vipers. Tatym Driscoll was consistent all game and had an assist. 9/21, Alex Manfredi was player of the game with 2 great goals in the first period which secured the team a 3-3 tie vs the Hartford Jr. Wolfpack.
U12 White: In both games (Oct. 21st and 22nd), the U12 Blue players were moving the puck nicely and with purpose. Specifically against the Generals, the girls worked together and many of the 8 goals were true team goals. The coaches couldn’t be happier about it. The team once again showed their resilience. On Sunday, the Vipers were down 1-0 going into the third. They fought hard and never gave up, to come back and take the game in the third period for a 2-1 win. Resilience is extremely hard to teach players, but these players have it.
U12 Blue: The U12 Blue team had a great start to the season with a 5-2 win over the Wizards. Goals were scored by Lorelei Swan, Lucia DeFeo, Isla Doherty, and Ella Lundergan, with assists from Claire Marek and Mattea Mendonca. Violet Cerretani played well in net in her first game with the Vipers, keeping the Wizards to only 2 goals in the 3rd period. The weekend of Oct. 21st Mallory McDermott was a stand-out player with goals in both games. Halle Howell filled in for our injured goalie Violet and played great, making some big stops to keep the games tight. Proud of the girls for battling against two great teams!
U13 Red: Goalies Kendall Powers and Gia Rizzuto were strong from the opening drop, making key saves wire to wire including a penalty shot save by Powers (9/14). This past weekend goals were tough to come by, but this was the best total team effort so far this season. Gia Rizzuto and Kendall Powers were outstanding once again. Hard work paid off and the Vipers responded early in the third when Hailey Anastasi stuffed one home. With the net pulled under 2 minutes to play, Lauren O’Brien got the equalizer. Tremendous team defense allows us to hang on.
U13 White: The team is holding steady tallying 4 wins and 2 losses, a lot of great play, especially in tight games the team has been working together and closing out the game on top.
U14 Red: The team played with a ton of energy for 3 periods of hockey vs the Seacoast Spartans closing out the game in a 2-2 tie. The Vipers face off against the Jr Terriers on Saturday, prepared to tally a second win against this opponent.
U14 White: First-year Viper, Lilly Lovett, found the back of the net in the 8-1 win vs the Wizards on 9/7. Shout out to Natasha Arey ..she left her comfort zone on forward and showed up big time playing 2 games on the back end. With that, she got the player of the week nod (9/7 weekend of games). On 9/22 Aubrey Kelleher had 2 goals, one on a nice shortie fed by Mia Basile. Avery Condon added one with a great shot from the point.
U16 Red: The u16-1s had a great win vs the Lady Flames with a final score of 6-3. The girls continue to honor and pay tribute to teammate Sarah Duval by taping their sticks orange and cheering Sarah Strong in between periods.
U16 White: All around solid defensive team effort starting in goal with Lexi McDonough & Hannah Bub. Strong backchecking from all forwards especially Amelia Serino, Sophia Flores-Quero, and Agatha Quinlan. This past weekend the 16 White team made the trek to Auburn Maine for a two-game set (wins in both games). In Game 1 Goals were Scored by Molly Boydin (2) Caitlyn Croll, & Angelina Catarino. The defense played a strong game led by Maeve Whopperer and Ella Donovan. Amelia Serino had a strong all-around game that did not show up on the scoresheet. In game 2 the line Julia O’Neil (1), Sophia Flores-Quero (2), and Molly Boydin (1) scored 4 goals and made numerous great plays. Other goals were scored by Amelia Serino, Emily Deleire, and Angela Cardillo. Agatha Quinlan moved back from C to D for the game and played very well.
U19 Red: The U19 Red team faced off against the Eagles 9/22. Both teams battled hard all game with back-and-forth play. Goalies, Lydia Barnes and Megan Mullarky played lights out!! Mikayla Holland had the only goal of the game for the 1-0 win!
U19 White: 9/15 Players of the Game went to both our Goalies, Abby Buckley and Nicole Tinkham, for securing the team a 1-0 win vs the Blazers!!!
The organization looks forward to many of our teams traveling down to the Rhode Island Sting Tournament from October 11th to 14th. Good luck Vipers!!!
